Mrs. Verna D. (Duest) Scribner, age 92, died at home, Thursday May 10, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Born in Watertown, Verna was the devoted daughter of the late Lydia (MacNaughton) and Mark Duest.

Verna attended Watertown schools and graduated from Watertown High School. She then attended the Beauty Academy of New York. She worked as a Function Manager with Sheraton Hotels of Lexington and Boston. Verna enjoyed her summers in Marshfield and donating her time with the Woburn Senior Center, and the Tidd House of Woburn.

Verna lived in Lexington then moved to Delray Beach, FL where she spent 30 years. In 2005, Verna moved to Woburn to live with her beloved niece Nancy Kerrigan and her husband Peter Kerrigan. Verna was very active with the Senior Singers here in Woburn. In her spare time Verna enjoyed Arts, crafts and crocheting.

Verna was the beloved wife of the late Charles P. Scribner. Devoted mother of the late Cheryl E. Scribner. Sister of Lydia DeFerro of New Jersey, and the late Lloyd Duest, Virginia Coombs, Frank Duest, Mark Duest, and Richard Duest. Born in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Hovaness and Margaret ( Kharagavoorian ) Baronian, both survivors of the Armenian Genocide. She worked as an executive secretary for the Badger Corporation in Boston. She was an active member of the Armenian community and a frequent volunteer for F.A.C.S.( Friends of Armenian Culture Society). A wonderful cook, she hosted numerous dinner parties for Armenian organizations and Tufts University. She was the sister of the late John Baronian of Medford, MA, and she is survived by her sisters, Helen Baronian of Waltham and Stella Aftandilian of Weston, MA. Affectionately known as “Aunt Betty’’, she is also survived by her nephews: John Aftandilian and his wife Krista of Belmont, MA; Gregory Aftandilian and his wife Nazeni of Vienna, VA; and Ara Aftandilian and his wife Terri Lee of Topsfield, MA, and six grandnieces and grandnephews: Lia, Melanie, Victoria, Alexander, Danielle and Alec Aftandilian. DEYERMENJIAN, Stephen, a longtime resident of Reading, passed away on August 4, 2012 after a brief illness. Stephen was the son of the late Krikor and Josephine Deyermenjian of Watertown. He was a devoted father to Kara and Robert Deyermenjian, both of Reading. He is survived by his siblings, Gregory Deyermenjian and his wife Monica of Wakefield, his sister Marcia Miller and her husband Robert of Maine, his sister Diana Deyermenjian and her husband Peter Gillies of Reading. He is also survived by his former wife, Susan Deyermenjian and many close friends who supported him through his life and his illness. He will be sorely missed by many nieces and nephews.
